CSC NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
The Neighborhood Watch program consists of three parts:
Neighborhood Watch and Patrols – At root, this part is about neighbors watching out for their neighbors. You already do this on an informal basis by watching your neighbor’s house and picking up their mail while they are on vacation, or by reporting suspicious activities, vehicles, and crime to police. We take it a step further with the Hollybrooke Email Alert system that notifies neighbors of incidents and by running an organized Neighborhood Watch Patrol.
Our Neighborhood Watch Patrol works in cooperation with the MCPD to protect our neighborhood. Who better to notice unusual occurrences than the people who live in the neighborhood? By acting as eyes and ears for the MCPD, we can help them be a more effective force. The Patrol is not a vigilante force. You will not be asked to enforce the law or confront people engaged in suspicious or criminal activity. We are simply here to observe activity in the neighborhood and report suspicious activity and crime.
A couple of times a year, you will be asked to
- spend 2 hours driving through the neighborhood with a patrol partner on a pre-determined route
- look for and report suspicious activity, crime, and broken street lights
- use a powerful flashlight to view darker areas so the team doesn’t have to leave the vehicle
Operation ID – Homeowners identify theft-prone items by recording serial numbers and engraving items with an identifiable number like a driver’s license number. Easily identified property is hard for a thief to dispose of because it is easily traced back to you. Participants in Operation ID receive stickers to place in their windows, notifying potential thieves that property is hard to dispose of.
Home Security Improvements – Homeowners secure doors and windows, upgrade lights, and make other improvements. The MCPD has home security surveys to help with this activity.
