May 12 monthly DSS HOA Board meeting:
A small group has been set up with the
concurrence of the Board, made up of residents to pursue discussions
with county officials to investigate and stop or at least influence
the county development process for the Gude Landfill Development
The initial position of the group is that representations have been
made since before the development of this community that the Gude
Landfill
would eventually be developed into parkland. One of the positions from
the County officials is that the property is not stable enough to be
parkland
but they want to put in a bus parking lot and refueling station,
which would seem to be even more problematic given the shifting nature
of
of the subsurface.

From Bob Day:
I remember that the County rep
(3rd
presentation) said yes when asked if we could have a copy of the
engineering study that said 31 acres of Gude was "usable". We
should ask in writing for a copy of that report. That is the only study
to date and therefore the first we should examine.
Second we should ask for a small group to tour the bus depot area and
see what is there that they want to transfer. Recall, at the meeting, I
keyed in on the gasoline storage - I would like to know how much they
store and often they refill, etc. I think that is a weak link in the
plan. They are talking a fuel depot - not a parking lot.
Attached are some photos that I took. For orientation, I assumed we are
on the west boundary. Looking west to east pix was taken from the top
of the berm looking across the 100 acres towards Southlawn.
See the tree line in the distance? That is where I was when I
took the pix "Looking east to west". Our houses are just
beyond the treeline.

From Nick Radonic:
There is an existing road/path up on the landfill. For the purposes of
assessing noise and appearance, driving a bus up onto the berm
would give us some idea of how loud and visible this traffic
would be to people in the green space below and at the line of the
houses.
