June 18th - The Gude Men's
Shelter has been renamed The Gude Drive Complex. It was ceremonially
opened with a large gathering of County officials (Ike Leggett and Phil
Andrews) and about 100 social services related administrators and
professionals. This was a $6 Million renovation involving a large
number of human services organizations in the County, along with
builders associations in addition to the County's funding. TV cameras
were present and the clips were to be posted on the County website. ![]() |

negotitations with County MDE: initial plan for evaluation of Gude Landfill |
|
County officials are talking with Maryland Department of the Environment for the first time in 7-20 years on multiple issues about the requirements for monitoring and remediation of creek water and aquifier pollution from the landfill. This includes leachate, runoff and future wood transfer and processing on the adjoining paved pad. A far cry from 500 buses, a wood chipper/brush transfer point originally proposed. Also the discussion extends to landfill gas emissions and collection. The landfill gas to electricity generator is being installed. A discussion page has been set up at "Gude Landfill Concerned Citizens dot com", to continue detailed discussions and accumulate information in our ongoing discussions with the County and the State environmental departments. A letter outlining the current status has been posted and emailed to the community. |
|
1-26-09: County Executive Ike Leggett sent out a letter announcing that he was withdrawing the Gude Landfill as a proposed site for the bus parking and service site. |
|
The County has an annual beautification subsidy (50% up to $500) to spruce up the neighborhood. The next set of grants come out for this fall. Send suggestions to the Board. We will discuss this at the next board meeting. |
